Policy CI: Filling Administrative Vacancies

Whenever an administrative vacancy, other than the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent, is to be filled, the School Committee will establish a Screening Committee to be responsible for the following tasks:

  1. review all applications received for the position,
  2. select and interview candidates it chooses to be considered for the position, and
  3. recommend at least two candidates, or an alternate number as determined by the School Committee, to the Superintendent for interview and final selection.

For the filling of PPS Director, Principals, Elementary Curriculum Director, and Instructional Directors, the Screening Committee will ordinarily include representatives of the teaching staff, students (secondary level), parents, administration, and, at the option of the School Committee, one of its own members. The School Committee will determine the actual Screening and Selection Committee composition for each such position to be filled. For the selection of other administrative positions, the Superintendent will establish an appropriate Screening and Selection Committee.
